Common sense tells us that toxic waste should be handled and dumped in the correct manner, but what about waste considered less dangerous? Household? Building? White goods?
Fly Tipping is illegal – it’s as simple as that. There are plenty of waste removal companies that work outside the law, ignoring regulations and dumping your waste illegally and irresponsibly.
Obviously there are hundreds of professional companies disposing of unwanted waste responsibly, many of those based on the Wirral choosing to use our transfer station on a regular basis.
Fly tipping can result in up-to five years in prison, a cameo on rogue traders and a max fine of £50,000!
What happens if waste has been dumped on your property or land?
Well, the first thing to understand is that the local council (s) have their own guidelines but generally it’s the responsibility of the land owner to have it removed. You can report the incident and they will investigate but other than that you need to take some steps into fly-tipping prevention.
How do I prevent Fly Tipping on my property?
Prevent access to your premises by installing gates and barriers. Always be sure that you are not permanently blocking a public right of way for pavements and footpaths.
Make sure gates are closed and if required locked when access is not required.
Improve visibility so that fly-tippers are not hidden from view, this may help you and the public in terms of observation.
Install or improve lighting and get some signs created that will inform fly tippers that they’re being watched and will prosecuted if caught.
